The box office it made was £12.100 ($20,412) and it's budget was £650,000 ($1,096.49) .

And has been rated such as rotten tomatoes gave the film a 91% and total film gave it film of the day and placed it in its Top 3 Films at Sundance.

Rock Nests Entertainment and Wild Horse Film company are the companies that worked on the production for the film and UK: Verve Pictures for the distribution and the film was released on DVD on 22 march 2013.


The film was filmed in London and Hackney and used Alexi Arri cameras which happen to be digital.


The film doesn't have a website however it does have a Facebook and Twitter page.

Reseach on "The hobbit"

 

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is a film directed by Peter Jackson. It was produced by New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer  and Wingnut Films. It was distributed by Warner Bros. It is the second installment in a three-part film adaptation based on the novel of the same name by J. R. R. Tolkien. The film was preceded by An Unexpected Journey and will be followed by The Battle of the Five Armies.

Hobbit: the desolation of Smaug budget was  $225 million( 135 mill in pounds) and made $258,366,855 in box office ( $70, 275, 514 in the UK) . It grossed $209 million worldwide ( on its opening weekend

 

 

 

The cast of Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug :-

 

• Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins: a hobbit hired by the 13 dwarves, on the advice of wizard Gandalf, to accompany them on a quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug.

• Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey: a wizard who recruits Bilbo and helps to arrange the quest to reclaim the Dwarves' lost treasure in Erebor.

• Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield: the leader of the Company of Dwarves who has set out to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug and uncle to Fili and Kíli

• Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug (vocal performance and motion capture): the last great dragon of Middle-earth, who claimed the Lonely Mountain including the vast treasures of Erebor and the surrounding human areas, and as the Necromancer: the mysterious sorcerer of Dol Guldur with the ability to summon the spirits of the dead.

• Orlando Bloom as Legolas: The Elven Prince of Mirkwood and the son of Thranduil.

• Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel: An elf from Mirkwood and the Chief of the Guards for the Elvenking, Thranduil. She develops romantic feelings towards the dwarf Kili, and later falls in love with him.

• Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman: Bard of Esgaroth was a skilled archer and the heir of Girion, the last king of old Dale. Evans also plays Bard's ancestor, Girion, in a flashback.

• Lee Pace as Thranduil: Referred to in the novel as "The Elvenking", he is the ruler of the realm of the northern part of Mirkwood. He is also the father of Legolas.

• Stephen Fry as Master of Lake-town: The leader of the settlement of Men at Lake-town near the Lonely Mountain.

• Mikael Persbrandt as Beorn: A skin-changer; a man who can assume the appearance of a great black bear.

• Sylvester McCoy as Radagast the Brown: a wizard of Gandalf's Order.

• Manu Bennett as Azog: An Orc and the nemesis of Thorin Oakenshield, on whom he seeks revenge for losing his forearm and hand in battle.

• Lawrence Makoare as Bolg: An Orc and the son of Azog.

• Craig Hall as Galion: Elven King Thranduil's butler, whose fondness for drink allows for Bilbo and the dwarves' escape attempt.

• John Bell as Bain: Son of Bard, he is described as "confident and brave and ready to do battle if required even though he is still a boy."

Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom and Benedict Cumberbatch are the star appeal to get people to which the film as  Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom  who were in the previous trilogy; And Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch who are in the well praised Sherlock.

 

 

Music 

The musical score for The Desolation of Smaug was composed by Howard Shore in association with local New Zealand writing teams. It was performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. The original motion picture soundtrack album was released on December 10, 2013. It received positive reviews, especially for its new themes. the soundtrack belongs to Warner bros (an example of synergy).


English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran wrote and recorded "I See Fire", which plays during the end credits (this is an example of convergence). The song was released on iTunes on November 5, 2013. It is also on YouTube on CLS videos with 34,842,212 views and on Peter Jackson's channel with 8,817,559.




Tech


The films were filmed in 3D using Red Epic cameras(digital). According to a production diary video, 48 Epic cameras were used during the film's production. The production employed a specialty rig designed by 3ality Technica, using two cameras and a mirror in order to achieve an intraocular effect similar to that of human sight (the distance between the eyes). This is how the depth required for 3D film is achieved.


In April 2011, Jackson revealed through his Facebook page that he would film The Hobbit at 48 fps (frames per second) instead of the normal 24 fps.


Marketing


A large range of merchandise was made to promote the film going from plush toys, action figures to props, replicas and even costumes. Even making toys with the company Lego as well as games too for Hobbit to get a younger audience to watch the film (working together side by side Synergy).

Representation of Gender

Status of characters 

Docter- he is shown at first to be the weakest than most of the other characters due to him being in a cage, however when everyone is saying Doctor his status rises as his body changes back to his normal form and is flying.The Doctor is the protagonist, the typical savior and hero like a holiy figure which could be shown by he keeps saying "i am sorry" showing that regret of what he is doing, giving us an idea of dislikes violents.

 

 

Master- he is shown to have a high status as he is in control of the situation by him laughs at and mocks Marther, The weak doctor and everyone else in the room, but when the Doctor's status rises, his status drops quickly shown by him walking backwards and by him panicing saying "you can't do this". He is shown to be a typical antagonist as he seems to have a plan which he believes can't be stopped but is later defeated.

 

 

 

Marther- she shown to be at her mercy as she is giving up, do this for her famliy so at the start her status is low as has to bow to the Master but has trobule doing this showing she hate what she is doing , however when she is explaining her plan and she tricked the Master, she is shown to be strong and impowered shown by flashback of her walking through heavy snow. Marther is a heroin, but is isnt the typical one that needs help all the time as shet helps the Doctor who is at this point weak.

 

 

Stereotypes within characters

It is contradicted as the female is normally the heroin is the one who is in need saving but here the protagonist is the one that needs to be saved, so in a matter of speaking the roles have been reversed. The master on the over hand is more of a stereo typical character has he like most villans believes he can never be defeated and that his plan is flawless and end with he failing in a tyical villan fashion as he keeps repeating words like "No", You can't do this" and "How?"

Status shown with camera shots

The angling of behind marther showing the Master on the staiws makes the masters status high and higher then Marther  as the shot makes the Master taller than her. The close up of the Master were he has his head up and is looking down at marther makes his status higher as the looking down at marther shows domaints over her and that he is in a high class then her. The close up on marther's face from above lowers her status as she is looking up to her new Master showing she is less domaint than him.

Swedes

Swedes or a sweded is a low budget fan made trailer. the process is called sweding.

It comes from a film Be Kind Rewind by michel gondry where the main character "jerry" erases all the videotapes in a rental shop and remakes all of them by himself with some friends.
